The technologies in the Web3 spaces are maturing, and we’ve started to witness a shift in how digital assets and services are accessed and utilised. One of the top buzzwords during the past few months has been intents, and while a few projects have given it due attention, something tangible, useful, and effective has certainly been missing.

At Router Protocol, we started our work on what we call the Router CCIF (Cross-chain Intent Framework) and released our whitepaper to showcase the potential. We have also done a deep dive into our architecture in our past two blogs, and today, we’ll be talking about the use cases for the same!

Each of these use cases exemplifies how Router’s Cross-chain Intent Framework (CCIF) turns the often-hyped concept of the ‘Holy Grail’ for cross-chain interoperability into an achievable reality.

Cross-chain DeFi Applications

Router’s Cross-chain Intent Framework has the potential to transform DeFi by offering diverse cross-chain applications.

Variety of Cross-chain DeFi Applications

Router’s framework supports an array of applications, including but not limited to cross-chain liquid staking, cross-chain lending/borrowing, and managing cross-chain liquidity positions. This versatility enables users to explore numerous financial strategies across different blockchain networks.

Enhancing Asset Utilization

One of the key benefits of this framework is its ability to help users actively engage their idle funds. It empowers them to stake their assets on their preferred platforms across multiple chains, breaking the constraints of their base blockchain. This feature significantly widens the scope for users to interact with diverse DeFi ecosystems.

Illustration

Consider a practical scenario: a user with USDC on the Polygon network aims to stake these funds on Benqi, a liquid staking platform on the Avalanche blockchain. Here’s how Router’s framework facilitates this process:

  • Initial Transfer via a Bridge Adapter: The journey begins with the framework employing a bridge adapter. This adapter safely transfers the user’s USDC from the Polygon network to the Avalanche network.
  • Conversion through a DEX Adapter: Next, a DEX (Decentralized Exchange) adapter comes into play, converting the transferred USDC into Avalanche’s native token, AVAX.
  • Staking with Benqi’s Adapter: The process culminates with the use of a Benqi Staking Adapter. This adapter completes the staking process by depositing the AVAX tokens into Benqi’s smart contracts on the Avalanche network and providing a user with sAVAX (Benqi’s liquid-staked AVAX).

Cross-chain NFT Marketplace

The Router CCIF significantly simplifies and enhances the experience of interacting with NFT marketplaces across different blockchain networks.

Enabling Cross-chain NFT Transactions

Router’s CCIF can facilitate the bidding and purchasing of NFTs across different blockchain networks. This capability broadens the scope for NFT enthusiasts to engage with a wider range of marketplaces and digital assets.

Practical Scenario of NFT Trading Across Chains

Consider a user who owns an Ethereum-based NFT and wishes to trade it on a Polygon-based NFT marketplace. Router’s framework streamlines this cross-chain NFT trading process in several steps:

  • NFT Transfer via a Bridge Adapter: The journey begins with the transfer of the Ethereum-based NFT to the Polygon network. This is achieved through a bridge adapter supporting NFT transfers.
  • Facilitating Marketplace Interactions: Once the NFT is successfully bridged to Polygon, the framework employs a specialised adapter designed for NFT platform interactions. This adapter executes the exchange or sale of the NFT on the desired Polygon marketplace.

Framework’s Efficiency in NFT Management

The framework is adept in handling non-fungible token transfers and is capable of facilitating seamless interactions with various NFT platforms. It demonstrates the system’s proficiency in managing complex, multi-chain NFT transactions, thus offering users a more integrated and accessible NFT trading experience.

Automated Portfolio Rebalancing

Router’s CCIF also enhances the functionality and effectiveness of portfolio management decentralised applications (dApps).

Strategic Yield Optimization with Intent Solver

At the core of Router’s cross-chain Intent framework is the Intent Solver. This component employs a multi-criteria decision-making algorithm to identify the most optimal paths for executing a user’s intent. By utilising this component, a portfolio management, dApp can identify platforms offering the highest yields, aligning investments with the most lucrative opportunities in the DeFi space.

Dynamic Asset Management through Stateful Adapters

Stateful portfolio management adapters will be required to manage user assets dynamically. These adapters will enable the dApp not only to track but also to adjust user assets to optimize yields actively. This dynamic management is essential for responding to the ever-changing conditions in the DeFi space.

Relevance for Stateful Applications

The inherent ability of Router’s CCIF to support dynamic strategies highlights its significance for stateful applications like portfolio management dApps. It demonstrates the framework’s adaptability and effectiveness in handling complex, variable scenarios typical in portfolio management.

Conclusion

In sum, the framework has been expertly designed to meet the contemporary demands of the blockchain ecosystem. The practical implications of this framework are far-reaching and user-centric. It empowers users to optimise yield on their assets, engage in lucrative DeFi opportunities, and seamlessly trade NFTs across diverse blockchains.

Router’s CCIF is not just a technological advancement; it is a testament to the ingenuity and forward-thinking approach of Router Protocol, setting a new standard for blockchain interoperability and user empowerment in the digital age.
